Hurricane Electric Adds Fiber to Network
Fremont, California - April 30, 2002 - Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service Provider, has just added another fiber connection to their Fremont and San Jose colocation facilities, adding supplemental capacity and more redundancy to their national network.

"We are taking additional steps to ensure that all of our customer's data reach their destination all of the time," said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric. "By adding another fiber connection to our facilities, we are adding to the security that our customers have come to rely on when they use our services."

UFO Communications, a leading provider of metropolitan optical networks, will deliver the single mode fiber into both Hurricane Electric facilities as gigabit Ethernet.

Hurricane Electric chose a fiber optic cable instead of a standard copper cable because fiber can transfer more data at a faster speed over longer distances. Fiber is also more secure than copper due to the fact that fiber carries light instead of the radio frequencies used in copper cabling, which can be intercepted by hackers.

Hurricane Electric has prided themselves on their self-healing network architecture, which virtually eliminates a single point of failure. While purchasing additional fiber connections into their facilities, they also negotiate with various backup transit providers and peer with over 200 national and international carriers to maintain the shortest routes for sending their customer's data all over the world.

The additional fiber into the San Jose and Fremont facilities augments Hurricane Electric's already abundant network comprised of connections ranging from OC3s (155Mbps) to gigE (1,000Mbps), which connect several major exchange points, such as PAIX (Palo Alto), AADS (Chicago), MAE East (Vienna, VI), NYIIX (New York) and MAE West (San Jose).
